As a native Mediterranean I believe that Americans think about Mediterranean diet as just the food and they unable to see the context of the Mediterranean culture where community and food go hand in hand.
Hi Lior! I couldn’t agree more! The Mediterranean diet is so much more than just the food—it’s a way of life rooted in community, connection, and the joy of sharing meals. That cultural context is such an essential piece, and I love that you bring that perspective. It’s powerful. Thank you for sharing!
I also feel that social connections improve when we have our “tribes”. I am blessed to have my family tribe, my bestie, my swimming tribe, my Pilates tribe, my girlfriend’s tribe, my Sunday dinner tribe…. Different groups, some large and some small, really make my life better. In a time when we hear so much from people with extreme views, it is great to have this variety and really see that so many people are more in the middle. ❤️
Hi Dee! I love this so much! Beautiful reminder that community isn’t just one thing—it’s layered, evolving, and can come from so many places. And I completely agree—when we surround ourselves with real, diverse connections, we see so much more nuance and common ground than the extremes we often hear about. Your Sunday dinner tribe sounds especially lovely. Thanks for sharing!
It's inspiring to see leading family practitioners like you emphasize the benefits of social connection...there is a growing movement of social "prescriptions" that has a much to offer prevention and cognitive health as exercise and medication
Hi Ellen, thank you! It’s exciting to see the growing recognition of social prescriptions and their role in prevention especially in cognitive health. The 2017 pilot I described in the newsletter played a small part in laying the groundwork for broader programs in our region, and I love seeing this movement continue to grow!

And I guess I should mention that when these tribes gather it is always over food. ❤️
